Biography

Sabina Bockemühl (born March 12, 1966, in Solingen) is a German artist and painter.

Bockemühl completed her education in Düsseldorf, Trier, Münster, and Barcelona, among others, under the tutelage of Prof. Markus Lüpertz. Her studies in portrait painting during 1990/91 under the renowned sculptor and portrait artist Ricci von Riggenbach form the foundation of her current work. Residencies in the USA and Spain and her tenure with designer Dieter Sieger at Schloss Harkotten in Münsterland have significantly influenced her work, as well as training in mural painting, trompe l'oeil, and facade painting. Sabina Bockemühl established her first studio in 1990, and since 2002, she has been working in Murnau am Staffelsee. There, she also runs a private art academy in the "Yellow House". She finds inspiration in another residence, in her father’s studio in Mallorca, where she regularly works outdoors on her Majorcan nature paintings.

Bockemühl is a member of the BBK (Professional Association of Visual Artists), initially in Wuppertal, and since 1997 in Munich. Her works have been featured in numerous exhibitions and art fairs both domestically and internationally.

Our Mission and Actions

At THE ART HUB, our mission is initially focused on addressing a profound imbalance within the art world, specifically catering to women artists. In the current landscape, a mere 5% to 15% of artworks traded at auctions are created by women, starkly contrasted by the overwhelming 85% to 95% of works by male artists. This disparity is not only confined to auctions but is also prevalent in exhibitions, where male-created art significantly overshadows that of their female counterparts.

By concentrating our efforts on female artists, THE ART HUB aims to counteract this imbalance and champion women within the art community. This initiative is designed to amplify the visibility of women artists, making their creations more accessible to a wider audience, and ultimately striving for a more balanced representation of genders within art auctions and exhibitions. By prioritizing women in art, our platform boldly advocates for equality and diversity within the art sector, signaling a commitment to reshaping and enriching the cultural landscape.

Personal Statement

"Yes to life, with all senses in the here and now. What do I stand for? This is a question one should ask oneself from time to time. I have found an answer to it in my art. In an art of clear stance.

Having a clear stance is important. Today as well as tomorrow.

I also have a clear stance on socio-political developments. But primarily, I have a clear human stance. As a person and as an artist. This stance is expressed in my paintings.

I respect creation and take a stand for it. The dignity of the individual and the protection of nature are of great value to me.

I hope that my paintings can inspire others to affirm life. Mind you: not to a superficial affirmation. But to a conscious turning to the other, perceiving them, seeing them, understanding them.

In this sense, I also paint portraits and urban faces. I do not simply want to depict faces. I try to look behind people's facades. I aim to capture them with their strengths and emotions, with their life stories. Then they are honest portraits of people who move and impress me. Of influential personalities who shape society.

And in the end, this has a lot to do with me again. I put soul into my work by opening up. Thus, a part of me lives in my paintings.

My greatest goal is for my works to reach an international audience.
