Brief Biography | Artistic Journey
My name is Anna Baklane. Born in 1982 in Latvia, then part of the Soviet Union, I come from a family of painters—both of my parents were painters, and my sisters are also professional artists. I was classically trained at Janis Rozental’s art school before earning a Master’s degree from the Art Academy of Latvia in 2008. My studies culminated in a figural masterclass led by esteemed Latvian painters N. Braslins and J. Jurjans.
Since the early 2000s, I have actively participated in the art community, contributing to numerous group exhibitions and holding nine solo and four two-artist exhibitions across Germany, Belgium, Sweden, and Latvia. I have also collaborated with international galleries in Berlin and Knokke and participated in prestigious exhibitions such as NordArt (2015, 2018) and Art Gent 2012 with d’Haudrecy Art Gallery.
My artistic practice is primarily focused on oil painting, ranging from small to large-scale works. I employ a meticulous multilayer technique that reflects the depth and complexity of my themes. Figural painting is my main interest, particularly in portraying female figures to explore the interplay between the mind, the world, and the self. Often, my subjects are imaginary, though I sometimes draw from friends and relatives as models. While I occasionally paint self-portraits, I more frequently use my own image to convey specific concepts. Symbolism is integral in my work, allowing me to navigate and express life themes and events with a touch of humor, adding lightness to serious subjects. My approach to realism helps me tackle abstract ideas within the tangible world of my paintings.

Our Mission and Actions
At THE ART HUB, our mission is initially focused on addressing a profound imbalance within the art world, specifically catering to women artists. In the current landscape, a mere 5% to 15% of artworks traded at auctions are created by women, starkly contrasted by the overwhelming 85% to 95% of works by male artists. This disparity is not only confined to auctions but is also prevalent in exhibitions, where male-created art significantly overshadows that of their female counterparts.
By concentrating our efforts on female artists, THE ART HUB aims to counteract this imbalance and champion women within the art community. This initiative is designed to amplify the visibility of women artists, making their creations more accessible to a wider audience, and ultimately striving for a more balanced representation of genders within art auctions and exhibitions. By prioritizing women in art, our platform boldly advocates for equality and diversity within the art sector, signaling a commitment to reshaping and enriching the cultural landscape.
